David J. Rosen was the Director of the Adult Literacy Resource Institute/SABES Greater Boston Regional Support Center at the University of Massachusetts in Boston from 1986 to 2003. As an education consultant, since 1984, he currently provides or has recently provided assistance to: Portland State University (Oregon), as a Regional implementation Advisor for the national Learner Web demonstration project; YouthBuild USA and YouthBuild International with responsibility for the development of the National Learning Network Online, a national Web presence for YouthBuild teachers, and recently for guiding the adaptation of an integrated, construction- related learning curriculum in South Africa and in Haiti ; CALPRO, the California state professional development organization for adult education, designing their online courses; the National Institute for Literacy, moderating the Institute’s Special Topics asynchronous discussion list for adult education practitioners; the Health Care Learning Network in Massachusetts and Rhode Island; assisting with the design and evaluation of this online learning system for incumbent workers in hospitals and nursing homes; and McDonald’s Corporation, as an advisor for English Under the Arches, a distance education ESOL program for immigrant restaurant workers. Dr. Rosen has recently completed a study of formative assessment as practiced in Flanders Belgium, which he presented at OECD in Paris in February 2008, and a study of Workplace basic skills in the U.S. for the government of New Zealand.
