Have you been thinking about distance learning but don’t know where to start?  Have you tried distance learning but haven’t had much success?  Distance learning has many benefits for your ABE/GED, ESL and family literacy students. Learn how one Philadelphia agency has integrated distance learning into their services. Agency staff will discuss successes and challenges. Distance Learning Project staff will share ABLE policies and procedures. This informal discussion will also include the opportunity for you to ask questions and consider how distance learning might benefit your learners and agency.

Using Excel® for contextualized learning in the adult education classroom

This workshop will explore how to use Excel® in contextualized learning.  Excel® will be used to create charts and graphs from integrated classroom activities.  Data will be collected during a learning activity and the data will be used to create charts and graphs in Excel®.  Modifying charts and graphs in Excel® will also be covered.

Using Publicly Accessible Tools to Simplify Texts for Adult Learners

Participants will learn to identify areas of difficulty in texts and simplify them according to the literacy skills of their students using free, publicly accessible electronic tools. Using Microsoft Word and VocabProfile, they will be walked through the process of creating texts for a variety of instructional goals and contexts.
